Located just off the Yellowhead Highway, 27 minutes away from Shoal Lake sits the community of Foxwarren, Manitoba. This little town resides amongst fields and farmland, some of which belong to the Smith family under the name JM Smith Farms.

During its earlier years, the JM Smith Farm originally settled in Saskatchewan, however due to the hard times during the 1930’s, the farm moved around before finding its roots in the Foxwarren area.

Four generations have run the farm since then, with Jason Smith currently running the operation. In the future, his son Joben will be the fifth-generation farmer to keep JM Smith Farms up and operating.

“It’s strictly a grain operation and we crop about 4,600 acres each year. Back in the 60’s, my dad had cattle and pigs, but the farm was converted to just grain,” said Jason.

Each year, JM Smith Farms grows wheat, canola, peas, and soybeans, which happen to be a personal favorite of Jason’s.

“They need the moisture at the right time but they’re good for the dirt and they’re easy. Last year was the best year we’ve ever had with them.”

Excluding his Bourgault tillage and air seeder, Jason’s fleet boasts Case IH red and includes a 4440 Sprayer, a 580 Quadtrac, an 8240 and 8120 combine, a 9380 4WD tractor, and a Maxxum 135. While he enjoys the technology of each machine, Jason says the Sprayers have made the best improvements over the years.

“With their individual nozzle shut off and their upgraded GPS units, it’s made it so much easier. We put more hours on our Sprayer than anything,” he said.

RME Ag Equipment Sales Consultant Mark Swereda works closely with Jason to ensure he has the equipment and services he needs to run optimally each year.

“Mark does good work for the company, but he does even better work for the farmer. He genuinely cares about what he is doing and if we ever need anything, he’s right there.”

RME Shoal Lake’s Parts and Service department are also an important factor to keeping Jason’s equipment up and running.

“The Parts and Service at Shoal Lake is… you can’t beat it. You don’t have to worry about your downtime; as soon as you call, you’ve got help,” he said.

Having been with RME since it acquired Miller Farm Equipment back in 2009, Jason says he spends quite a bit of time down at the Shoal Lake branch.

RME is proud to work with customers Jason each year to keep their machinery running at it’s best to minimalize downtime in the field. By doing , each growing season has strong potential to be their best season, yet.
