Located in southeast Saskatchewan, RME Yorkton provides services for much of the surrounding area including Springside, Saltcoats, Canora, and a little town called Ituna where Sawchuk 89 Farms calls home.
Barry Sawchuk’s family began farming in 1923 when his grandfather bought a section of land outside of Ituna. This land was sold outside of the family in 1988, at the same time Barry and Glenda purchased their home and land from his father. They also managed to purchase back into the family the original section of land in 2002.
Glenda Sawchuk’s family began farming in 1921 when her grandfather bought three quarter sections, one quarter of which has since been purchased by Barry and Glenda from her mother. The remaining two quarters are rented from her brother.
Marrying in 1989, Barry and Glenda have brought the farm together to the 8,300 acres it is today. Growing primarily canola, they also grow wheat, barley, and oats in their yearly rotation.
“We have three sons; Cody, who farms full time with us along with running his farm and our construction business, Wyatt, a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician who helps us on the farm on his days off, and Levi, a Journeyman Powerline Technician who takes time off during seeding and harvest season to give us a hand,” said Glenda.
The Sawchuk’s have been loyal customers of RME for well over a decade; dating back to the WarDale days prior to RME Yorkton. In total, they own eight pieces of Case IH equipment, two Bourgault air drills and two MacDon headers.
One of those units includes a 2018 60th Anniversary Steiger 580W in the original Steiger green.
“Barry turned 60 that same year so it was a very special birthday,” said Glenda.
Working closely with AG Equipment Sales Consultant Rod Fazakas, Glenda said he has become a very good friend of the family.
“We get along great with Rod; he is a super guy. He is always there to help us with machine purchases, he delivers parts if needed, and he has even helped us out at harvest time on his days off.”
RME is proud to be a continual part of the Sawchuk 89 Farms’ story. By doing Right By The Sawchuk’s, RME ensures they are ready to tackle any challenge that may present itself during the growing, seeding, and harvest season.
