Terry Houlder Jersey Retired
January 15, 2019

January 12, 2019 was a day that will forever be remembered by the Town of Grimshaw, the North Peace Hockey League (NPHL), its many fans, and one particular Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME) Journeyman Parts Technician, Terry Houlder.

Not just because their team, the Grimshaw Huskies, played their arch rivals, the High Prairie Regals, who took the win by 6 OT – 5, but because of the special event that took place prior to puck drop.

This particular evening saw RME Grimshaw’s own Terry Houlder have his iconic jersey, #20, retired and hung next to his father’s jersey – that of Huskies legend Bud Houlder – at the Grimshaw Memorial Arena, commemorating his dedication, hard work and passion for hockey.

Once he hit the ice between the ages of 3-4, it didn’t take Terry long to hone in on his skills and create some history. This included being skilled enough to play on the local senior team as a bantam aged player.

Terry went on to play in the Western Hockey League for the Lethbridge Broncos in 1984 and the Calgary Wranglers in 1986, before moving onto the University of Calgary in 1987.  He then made the decision to move back home, ending up following in his father’s footsteps and dressing for the Grimshaw Huskies. After that, Terry became a NPHL legend of his own.

Playing a total of 845 games in NPHL, scoring 692 goals, and contributing 1453 assists for 2145 points, Terry ensured the Houlder name held its place within the NPHL community. During his full tenure in the NPHL he accumulated several accolades including a six-time champion, four-time MVP, was named Best Centre eight-times, and is a 15-time All-Star. All that and more was recognized at the big game on Saturday, which was proudly sponsored by RME.

All NPHL information on Terry Houlder’s achievements were provided by the North Peace Hockey League.
